A technical visit was organized to North East New Territories (NENT) Landfill Site and Treatment Plant for 25 participants on Saturday 16 Jan 2010.
Mr. William Wan, Compliance Manager of Far East Landfill Technologies Ltd. (FELT), first delivered a comprehensive presentation and introduction of the NENT Landfill Gas Treatment Plant.
This plant is based on a sales agreement between FELT and the Hong Kong and China Gas Co., Ltd. (HKCG). The scope of this project is to supply treated landfill gas to the HKCG Town Gas Production Plant at Tai Po to be used as heating fuel during town gas production process. The project covered design and construction of a landfill gas treatment unit and a 19-km long underground gas pipeline from NENT Landfill Gas Treatment Plant to Tai Po Town Gas Production Plant.
State-of-the-art technologies are adopted to construct the landfill gas treatment unit. The treatment unit removes hydrogen sulphide, water, heavy non-methane hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide and other unwanted gases from raw landfill gas leaving product gas containing over 85% methane. The treated landfill gas is also odorized by THT for safety purpose. The product gas is classified as synthetic natural gas (SNG) and delivered to the Town Gas Production Plant as a result.
During the visit, Mr. Wan also guided the participants for a plant tour so as to let the participants have an understanding on the operation of the landfill site and its landfill gas treatment unit.
At the end of the seminar, Ir. Gordon Ng, Hon. Secretary of the IGEM Far East District Section, presented the souvenir to Mr. Wan and expressed our token of gratitude for his warm hospitality.
